1. Measurement (Size and Height)
The first measurement when choosing a toilet is the distance from the wall to the middle of toilet flange better known as a rough-in measurement. The thickness of the baseboard should be considered if you’re measuring from the lowest part of the wall and the toilet should be measured directly from the wall. Toilet design can accommodate between 11 to 13 inches, but 12 inches distance is the standard. The standard height for your tolet should be around 15 inches from the seat to the floor, you can as well choose higher seat toilet as high as 17/19 inches as it is popularly referred to as “comfort height” but kids shouldn’t be allowed to use such toilet.

2. Toilet Design
Toilet come in different designs such as one-piece, two-piece or wall mount design depending on individual choice. The most common design of toilet is the two-piece, manufactured with a separate bowl and tank that can be bought together or separately. A one-piece toilet is a combination of the tank, bowl and lid together in a single unit. One-piece are easier to clean but often come in smaller sizes with fewer joints and crevices. It is expensive than two-piece due to the easy installation process involved. The most common types of toilet mounting are the wall mounting design, it is expensive than floor mounted designs and can be easily adjusted.

3. Gravity versus Pressure-assisted Toilets
The earliest version of toilet design is gravity toilets. Gravity toilets store water in a tank that is placed higher than the bowl so as to be able to flush down with gravity. Pressure-assisted toilets come with an inner tank inside the main tank, powered by air that forces the water out at high speed, uses less water than gravity toilets and cleans up the bowl better. Pressure-assisted toilet designs are expensive and parts can rarely be found if damaged.

4. Toilet Bowl type
The two types of Toilet bowls shapes are round and elongated. Round bowls are under 28 inches, while elongated bowls can be as large as 31 inches and are 2 or 3 inches longer in the front than round bowls. Some of the advantages of elongated bowls include its versatile usability functions, it can be used by different category of people including elderly and physically impaired. Elongated bowls take up more space than round bowls but come with a bigger seat for comfortability and thigh support features. Round bowls are inexpensive and can be easily repaired should there be a damage.

5. Single or Dual Flush
Tolet flush design can either be a single flush or dual flush, they both have their advantages. Trying to save water with tolet use is not a good idea, the single flush is an older model of toilet flush designed to save water. Dual flush toilets released 8 gallons of water per flush while single flush design releases 1.6 gallons of water and are expensive than single-flush models due to its functionality.
