Basket Mouth’s Apartment Invaded by Lagos Robbers

It is a known fact that most houses within Lagos Island are luxury apartments. Hence, most wealthy Nigerians choose to live there. Beyond the luxury, another feature of such houses is the availability of tight security.

Since most houses on the Island are located within residential estates, the probability of insecurity or robbery is expected to be lower when compared to houses in Lagos mainland which lack such tight security. In fact, houses on the Island have security cameras which are a surpassing measure against insecurity or robbery.

But come to think of this: If you are a burglar, would you focus on the mainland with few rich ones or target the ‘Islanders’ who are mostly rich people, despite the tight security? By intuition, a robber would prefer the later.

Little wonder armed robbers, three days before the date of this post, invaded the apartment of the popular comedian, Bright Okpocha, aka Basketmouth, in the Lekki area of Lagos State, carting away valuables.

It was reported that the gun-wielding robbers stormed Basketmouth’s apartment in the Lekki Phase 1 area around 2 am, and held the comedian and his family members hostage for about two hours. The robbers made away with valuables of the comedian, including the Closed-Circuit Television Cameras (CCTV) installed in the apartment.

Thank God his life wasn’t lost after all! But, what if it was? Would you say his security wasn’t tight enough? Or, say: ‘he should have installed a CCTV’, which he actually did yet got stolen.

What security measures could his house have lacked? I might not have come across his house before but from my physical survey of most residences on the Island, I can tell what most ‘Islanders’ are lacking in security. And that, I’d do in my next post.
