Bowen University: Courses, Admission, School Fees

Bowen University is named after an American missionary, Late Reverend Thomas Jefferson Bowen. He was the first person to pioneer the Baptist mission work in Nigeria in the year 1850. This university was established on July 17, 2001 and it is currently headed by the Nigerian Baptist Convention. With three faculties, namely – Faculty of Science and Science Education and Faculty of Agriculture, Bowen University kick started operations and it is currently one of the leading Christian private universities as we speak.

Bowen University School Fees

 

Bowen University like some other Christian Private school is a not-for-profit organization. Inasmuch as it sounds difficult to believe, it is true that running these private schools costs so much money that they have their tuition and fees on the high side.

A lot of people however feel that fees should be subsidized but in reality, they would run at a huge loss if they do reduce these fees.                                    

Faculty Of Agriculture 

Students in the Faculty of Agriculture are required to fully pay  all Fees and Levies in Schedules C, D and E as applicable PLUS a minimum of N300,000.00  from the Session Fees (Schedule A) in the First Semester before Registration. The balance are to be paid on resumption for the Second Semester.

Faculties Of Science & Science Education And Social & Management Sciences

Students are required to fully pay all Fees and Levies in Schedules C, D and E as applicable PLUS a minimum of N350,000.00  from the Session Fees (Schedule A) in the First Semester before Registration. The balance are to be paid on resumption for the Second Semester.

Faculty Of Law

Students are required to fully pay  all Fees and Levies in Schedules C and D  PLUS a minimum of N600,000.00 from the Session Fees (Schedule A) in the First Semester before Registration. The balance are to be paid on resumption for the Second Semester.

Anatomy And Physiology

Students in Anatomy and Physiology in the Faculty of Medicine are required to pay all Fees and Levies in B, C, D and E as applicable PLUS a miniimum of N350,000.00 from the Session Fees (Schedule A) in the First Semester before Registration. The balance must be paid within the first week of resumption of the Second Semester.

Nursing And Physiotheraphy

Students in Departments of Nursing & Nursing Science and Physiotheraphy are required to pay all Fees and Levies in B, C and E as applicable PLUS a minimum of N400,000.00 from the Session Fees (Schedule A) in the First Semester before Registration. The balance must be paid within the first week of resumption of the Second Semester.

MBBS Pre-Clinical

Students in the Pre-Clinicals of the Medicine and SurgeryProgramme are required to pay all Fees and Levies in B, C, D and E as applicable PLUS a minimum of N900,000.00 from the Session Fees (Schedule A) in the First Semester before Registration. The balance must be paid within the first week of resumption of the Second Semester.

MBBS Clinicals

Students in the Clinicals of the Medicine and Surgery Programmes are required to pay all Fees and Levies in B, C and D as applicable PLUS a minimum of N750,000.00  from the Session Fees (Schedule A) within the first week of resumption in March, 2017, a second instalment of N750,000.00 on or before July 31, 2017 and the balance of N491,500.00 on or before November 30, 2017.

Faculty Of Education

Students in the Faculty of Education are required to fully pay  all Fees and Levies in Schedules B, C and E PLUS a minimum of N250,000.00  from the Session Fees (Schedule A) in the First Semester before Registration. The balance are to be paid on resumption for the Second Semester.                                         

All Students are required to registered for their semester courses within the first three weeks of resumption. Registration is contingent on payment of all prescribed fees. Late registration after three weeks attracts a penalty of 5 percent of whatever amount stands against the student as total outstanding fees.

Feeding shall be by approved Cafeteria Services for which students themselves Pay As They Eat (PATE).

Admission Requirements for Undergraduates

Bowen University offers admission for UTME and Direct- entry-level students. Prospective applicants can find the general admission requirements at apply.bowenuniversity-edu.org.

These general admission requirements include:

  • Prospective applicants are required to sit for the compulsory Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and obtain the prescribed cut-off mark.
  • Applicants are also required to fill an online application form on the University’s website.
  • Prospective candidates are required to have a minimum of  5’ O’Level credits in Mathematics, English and three other relevant subjects, obtained in no more than two (2) sittings.

Admission Requirements for Postgraduates:

The General admission requirements for prospective postgraduate candidates are as follows:

  • Applicants must be graduates of the University or any other University recognized by the school’s senate and possess acceptable grades. For PGD programme, applicants must have a minimum of a third class degree; for Master’s, applicants must possess a bachelor degree and have a grade of not less than Second Class Lower Division; for Ph.D., applicants must possess a masters degree with a minimum average score of 60%.
  • Applicants must provide on request NYSC discharge certificate or exemption letter.
  • Prospective applicants must prepare for an examination of interview organized by the department of choice.
