Edo State workers urged to rejoin NHF scheme

The Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) has appealed to the Edo State Government to rejoin the National Housing Fund (NHF) scheme and make its workers homeowners. The Chief Executive Officer of FMBN, Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, who made the call in Benin City at the handing over ceremony of keys to the first batch of beneficiaries of three bedroom detached bungalows at the Goshen Garden city estate, said that Edo is the only state in the South-South region that has not keyed into the NHF scheme.

He was represented by the Executive Director, Finance and Corporate Services (FCS) of FMBN, Mr. Maelville Ebo, he disclosed that 4.6 million Nigerian workers were already partaking in the NHF scheme. He noted that Edo workers might have opted out of the NHF scheme because things were not done properly in the past but said the new team has been able to change the dynamics in the scheme and are aggressively pursuing those who embezzled money meant to build houses for workers. Mortgage loans of 5 million and below are capitalized, so that the beneficiary does not need to put down 10 percent of the property, as equity contribution, for the mortgage. These are some of the benefits of the NHF Scheme.

The Managing Director of Delta Trust Mortgage Bank (DTMB), Mrs. Ruby 0koro, said the distribution of keys to beneficiaries of the first private estate in the state was a call for the government and the people of Edo to get back to contribute to the NHF scheme. The Managing Director, Prucriz Property Investment Limited, Chris Ebbih called on Nigerians to embrace the NHF scheme. He appealed to the state government to assist in constructing the access road to the estate to ease movement of the homeowners and residents.

Mr. Ebbih explained that we are giving out keys even though the project has not been completed. It is for the singular reason that those who do not believe in the National Housing Fund Scheme of the Federal Mortgage Bank to know that the scheme is real and is working for those who are contributors to the NHF.
