Lagos residents who love fun may miss some of their favorite fun spots as a result of the action taken by the FIRS (Federal Inland Revenue Service) to seal up hotels and companies that owe taxes.
The Federal Inland Revenue Service, FIRS, yesterday, sealed the Diplomat Hotel, located on Shonnyway Street, Shonibare Estate, Maryland, Lagos, over a N351 million tax debt. Bukar Gana, head of the FIRS enforcement team, stated the hotel owes taxes between 2012 and 2016. The hotel’s customer care manager, who didn’t give his name, said they were “concerned about the debt”.

Also in Lagos, the team closed the premises of Island Power Limited, a power generating company, situated on Cable Street, Lagos. The company owes N132.5million accumulated between 2012 and 2014. The administrative department was sealed off, leaving only the power plant because of the essential services it provides to organizations.
The team visited Conservative Estimate Limited, situated on Fatai Irawo Street, Papa Ajao, Lagos, which has a tax debt of N15.8 million. However, the company was said to have relocated over four months ago.
The FIRS action will serve as a warning to companies that still owe taxes in the state. Lagos residents will miss their favorite hangout spots. At the same time, companies and business owners should learn to pay taxes and encourage the government. The growth of the state will improve the housing sector.

In a way, this may be a loss to the housing sector in the state.
