ROSE’S TALE- Part Two

I tell you not to pay until we have saw the house but thank God it is not more than 5,000. I don’ t understands how people can be so callous, there is two side to every business. Those doing the work and the ones destroying it. My God will punished that agent. We really needed to move out of this house, the landlord have increase the rent again

I was furious when I got this information, he just increased it last year! I answered. I was about to leave my apartment to confront him when Rose suggested otherwise. You is going to kill him if you went there now, he just leave about 30minutes ago. I deal with him, I make sure I read the letter before he leaves. When I reads the heading, I become furious and I tell him all these;
Mr. Landlord, all your children is married, what do you needed all these money you is acquiring for? A pillow in your coffin when you died? Or a golden coffin maybe…

You told him all that? Yes, and he promise to send us packing, so you needed to apologize to him, said Rose. Why should I apologize on your behalf, you insulted him, knowing fully well that we have no other option currently. I have did the deed, just please apologized. You also dash that agent 5,000, remembered?

The pressure became unbearable, the landlord was serious about sending us packing. Rose didn’ t stop making life unbearable for our landlord. Every time we had any argument about our current situation, she makes sure the landlord had a terrible day as well. This was not going to solve our problem, I kept telling her. A week later, Rose met with an agent at her place of work ( local government). He seemed genuine, he had helped Rose’s boss get a house for his mistress. We agreed to go on our first inspection on a Saturday.

 The house was beautifully finished with modern fittings, but it took us 2 hours to get to the house from the bus stop. The agent drove with us in the car. On our way, Rose kept giving me signals which I did not understand. Honey, do u trust your boss, she asked. I started getting worried at this statement, while I was at it, she asked that we parked. The agent stated that we had not gotten to the house and that the stress is worth it. I parked the car nonetheless, I think he wanted to use  us for ritual, said Rose.why would you think so,  why would your boss want you dead?  I don’t know, his wife found out about his mistress recently and I think I might have told her something pertaining to that, explained Rose. It’s either you told her or you didn’t.

“We are seeing that house today, I didn’t drive out here for nothing”.

I got into the car and we continued our journey, we got to our destination 15 minutes later. The property was more beautiful than the agent had described but it was a no no. I asked him if he had anything close to the road. It seems you don’t understand what I do Sir, but I expect that your mistress should, replied the agent. What did you just said? I am his wife not his mistress, screamed Rose. I asked Rose to calm down as I tried to understand the current situation. The agent interrupted, what I do is help people in power get accommodation for their Mistresses. When your wife approached me I thought she was aware of this, considering her closeness to her Boss. That’s why I brought you this far, no one should know where the commissioner’s mistress resides (smiling).

”Thank you so much for your time, my wife will  pay you your consultation fee”

A week later, which was my daughter’s birthday, the landlord came to drop another letter. You should know the content of the letter by now. Rose had gone to the market for our daughter’s parlour party. I didn’t inform her about the letter until we found a perfect apartment. Throughout the party, I tried as much as possible to hide what had happened. Rose couldn’t have noticed, she was too busy with her daughter. This is our second month in this business, how time flies. My colleague’s good morning these days is have you found a house?

After work one evening, I almost hit my childhood friend with my car while I was thinking about our landlord’s letter. It took me few minutes to recognize him after I offered him a lift. It was Bayo Akinwale, nicknamed ‘time is money’, you wonder why a thirteen years old boy would always think about money. He hustled when he didn’t have to, he does nothing for free, but he gets the job done; he won’t loan out his textbook for free. As we reminisced about old times, I told him that our landlord had given us quit notice which will be due less than 3 weeks from now. Time is money, you are talking to the right person, asides my major job as an event planner, I also do a bit of real estate. So what do you need? asked Bayo. This has to be our last bus stop, I thought. I gave him the details and he promised to get back to me tomorrow, after which he alighted from the car
